More announcements for GL

Ok time to clear the air about a few things.

1st, episode 9's translation was pretty awful in points as was made abundantly clear to me. Our fans deserve better. So simultaneously with our episode 10 releases later this week I will release a fixed .ass file for 9 so all of you can fix your versions to a more correct one. Why am I doing this? Shageki-kun told me to.

Secondly from episode 10 (and the fixed 9 .ass) on, I will be using the official names for the Generals and Spiral king. Yes even Thymilph. Now before you get upset, know that Gainax are some clever sons of bitches to name them this way and here's why: The Spiral King and his generals are a metaphor for DNA. Spiral in this case referring to a double helix, and each of the generals given a name that mirrors one of the four enzymes that make up DNA; Thymine, Adenine, Guanine, and Cytosine. Chances are down the line this series is going to have a lot of stuff about genetics and the makeup of life. And there's also Viral. What is a virus but a collection of DNA coated in protein? Another thing that's interesting is how Adiane and Thymilph apparently shared a friendship, when adenine and thymine are two enzymes in DNA that link together. Gainax is going somewhere with this, I'm looking forward to seeing what it is.

I watched Shinsen Subs' release of Oh! Edo Rocket number one last night and I was very impressed! They did an amazing job with everything and even put in about 6 minutes of very useful culture notes at the end of the episode. It's very daunting to be making a release that competes with that kind of quality. I'm kind of afraid no one will watch mine now.

And lastly last night on 4chan a lot of people got excited over the idea that we might be merging with [anon] subs. While I'm not against that idea, there have been no developments to that effect.

So tl;dr - new episode 9 script, offical names for bad guys from now on, Shinsen rocks, lol fansubbers.

'Til next time.

Official Episode 9 names

Ugh new official names for all the new stuff in episode 9 came out on the Gainax website today and boy was I off the mark. Lets take a look:

The scorpion General, who's name I translated as Adine is Adiane, not too bad.

The Peacock who I gave a German sounding name, Shtomundor or something, was as simple as "Cytomander" go figure.

I think I called this one "Goam" or something. His official name is Guame.

The big fish, the Spiral King. I called him Roddanam or something. Official name is Lord Genome.

The new mechs weren't really named in the episode, except Dai-Ganzan became Dai-Gurren and stuff like that. but you can check them out at http://www.gurren-lagann.net/mecha/index.html

Save Adiane, I kinda was off the ball on these. Oh well.

And one more thing from an anon on /m/ who went to Fanime this year:

"I recently returned from Gainax's Gurren-Lagann panel. I didn't bring my video camera this time, so I'm typing this from memory.

First, they showed the episode one of Gurren-Lagann without subtitles, but I'm pretty sure almost everyone there had already seen it fansubbed. After the episode was over, Hiroyuki Yamaga said, "If you want to see what happens next... I don't care, watch a fansub or something." So there you go: WE ARE FULLY AUTHORIZED TO DOWNLOAD GURREN-LAGANN."

So download guilt free my Gurren fans!

More stuffs

Episode 9 avi is done, though Scarywater's tracker seems to be down at the moment. Or maybe it just doesn't like me. Whatever.

.AVI

And now in response to some comments -

We intend to get an actual website. Trying to work out a nice layout.

As far as I know, we don't intend on getting an IRC channel. At least I don't. Haven't even discussed it really. Torrents seem to work nicely.

Scripts for episodes 1-5 were done in Sub Station Alpha 4 (.ssa files). Episodes 6+ are being done in Aegisub (.ass files). I doubt anything else will ever be used for the subtitles.

And I'll direct Fang back here in regards to the SQ/HQ mkv versions since episode 8. He took over doing the encoding for the SQ after he found a nifty (I guess) encoding program.

Episode 9 and a special announcement!

Gurren Lagann Episode 9 is out. Grab your torrents here:

Now as for the announcement. I'm proud to announce the Nyoro~n Fansubs will be subbing another new series: Oh! Edo Rocket!

It's a cute series that takes place in Old Tokyo (Tokugawa Era I believe), and it's about fireworks, Eureka clones, furries, and all sorts of other stuff.

Our primary goal is the speedsubbing of Gurren Lagann. Edo Rocket is more of a side project with a more relaxed "It's done when it's ready" schedule. The first episode should be ready to go later this week.

Thank you for watching Nyoro~n Fansubs, and I hope you'll give Oh! Edo Rocket a watch as well.

Gainax offical name flip flops.

God damn it Gainax. I was reading through the Gainax official site for Gurren Lagann and noticed that they changed many of the official names for several things: Chimiruf has now become Thymilph. But no one cares about him cause he's dead now. Dai Gurren Dan becomes Team Dai Gurren, and Coco Ji became Old Coco. Not big deals since I haven't even really used them. But the biggest change which makes no sense is Ganmen are now to be called Gunmen, which is ridiculous. Ganmen as some of you may know is an alternative word to Kao or face in Japanese. This made sense since the machines are basically big heads with arms and legs. Gunmen is kind of bizzare as I have yet to see one of the things armed with a gun. And now that I look closer I see that Viral's modified Enki is now known as the Enkidu, that's just lolfully sad.

I'll submit to the first few changes but the changes for the mech names I'm not so sure about. Should I follow the official names even if they've become woefully retarded, or stick with my current translations We've used for 8 episodes?

Nyoro~n Fansubs blog is go

I'm sure we're all sick of our scarywater site as our homebase right? Well while browsing fansubbing sites on Tokyo Toshokan, I noticed that Your Mom has one of these as their homepage, so I made one, at least until our real site gets off the ground.

So for the time being this is where I'll update news of everything that is Nyoro~n, as well as provide some interesting stuff that should be fun for everyone.

Also this is a place for you to leave feedback for us. We are a new fansubbing group after all, and we aren't as experienced as some of you out there, so if you've got something to share with us, I for one welcome your critiques.

Thanks for choosing Nyoro~n, we aim to please.
